Local Councillors Martin Judd and Arooj Shah organised a fundraising dinner at Blue Tiffin restaurant on Friday.
"Thank you to the organisers and volunteers of the Annie Kenney Fundraiser last night at the Blue Tiffin Restaurant in Royton.
We are well on the way to realising our fundraising target and last night we raised £1,300!
The special moment of the evening was Denise Dutton presenting the miniature scale model, called a maquette, to show how work is progressing. The steel frame has been fabricated which will take the clay to form the life and a quarter size clay. This will then allow casts to be taken in September and October for the bronze.
There is only so much detail that can be included in a miniature especially facial features but it gives a taste of what’s to come.
She spoke about the research she has undertaken and it was inspiring to her just how much of Annie’s character she connected with, as well as research in clothing of that period.
Members of the Oldham Youth Council and members of the community attended and were treated to an excellent performance from young people at St Thomas’ Lees who told Annie’s story and the fight for women’s votes.
A great evening with great people."
