£3000 for Annie!

Wow! News that the Annie Kenney Fundraiser put on by the Asian Business Leaders has brought in over £3,000 for the project is amazing!  We are now well on the way to our target and with a little push we will see a statue of Annie in our own Parliament Square. We had great speeches from Rubbi Bhogal-Wood from Wild and Form Digital, and Frank Rothwell from Manchester Cabins and even had the Sean Fielding the Council leader as the auctioneer! Sincere thanks to Muzahid, Kash and Malik as well as background support from Martin and...

Annie Kenney Fundraiser brings project total to atleast £22,000

Local Councillors Martin Judd and Arooj Shah organised a fundraising dinner at Blue Tiffin restaurant on Friday. There is only so much detail that can...

St Thomas Leesfield School Hold Annie Kenney Performance

Today a number of schools across Oldham celebrated the life of Oldham born suffragette Annie Kenney. I popped along to my neighbouring constituency in Oldham East & Saddleworth to visit a special march and performance outside Lees Brook Mill which is home to a plaque remembering Annie.   The young people from St Thomas Leesfield were absolutely brilliant in telling the story of the struggle for equal rights and the power of standing up for what you believe in. The work which must have gone into the performance, banners and costumes (right down to the clogs) was inspiring. Events were also held at Oasis Limeside and Failsworth School and many others. We are well on the way to realising our...
